Chişinău, the 21st of February 2018 – High-level officials and experts will attend the first Inter-Parliamentary Security Conference “Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges”, organized in Chisinau on the 2nd March, this year.

The event is organized in partnership with the Atlantic Council at the initiative of the Chairman of of the Republic of Moldova’s Parliament Andrian Candu, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze and the Chairperson of the Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Parubiy Andriy Volodymyrovych. The organization of the event was supported today by the decision of the Parliament’s Permanent Bureau.

“Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia are facing similar current challenges, such as separatism, misinformation, external interference in the political process. We also have common aspirations to transform our countries according to the European model and to EU integration. This conference, which we have the ambition to organize annually, is a platform for debates where high-level politicians and experts meet to identify new mechanisms for defence and security cooperation in the region. We have reached the stage where we are all aware of the need to strengthen the security dimension by counteracting the hybrid threats that undermine the democratic fundamentals of our countries.”, said Andrian Candu, Speaker of the Parliament.

The conference will discuss issues related to disinformation, information security, energy and current common challenges, economic growth and the rule of law in the Eastern Partnership. All the updated information is placed on the event page.

Until this hour, attendance to the conference was confirmed by the leaders of 10 legislatives, including seven Chairmen of Parliament. Also was announced the participation of  MEPs, representatives of the US Congress, as well as notable experts such as the Executive Deputy President of the Atlantic Council Damon Wilson, former Deputy Assistant of the State Secretary of USA and ex-president of Freedom House David Kramer, Anders Aslund, Eurasia Center, Atlantic Council, the Director of  Eurasia Center John Herbst, Ambassador Asif Chaudhry, RUSI Associate Director, Jonathan Eyal, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former NATO Deputy Secretary-General, other international and regional experts.

This is the first high-level parliamentary security conference.
